- Description
In Japanese, Sunao means honesty. It is a word that holds more than truthfulness; it carries the spirit of living with clarity, humility, and respect for the natural world. The Sunao Collection is born from this philosophy, an exploration of how simple forms and honest materials can create vessels that feel both timeless and alive.
The inspiration lies in the dialogue between nature and craft. Each vase and plant pot is shaped to frame what it holds, yet never overshadows it. The Carved Ruby finish brings a tactile expression to the smooth form, with fine grooves flowing across the surface in gentle, rhythmic patterns inspired by the meditative traces of raked sand and stone. Its deep ruby-red hue carries the warmth of iron-rich clay and the richness of aged lacquer, revealing subtle tonal variations as light moves across the textured surface. Earthy yet refined, the colour balances depth and vibrancy with a calm, grounded presence.
Every piece is hand painted, carrying subtle variations that make it one of a kind, echoing the Japanese belief that beauty is found in uniqueness and quiet detail. Just as no leaf, branch, or wave is ever identical, no Sunao vessel is the same. Shaped from natural clay and fired at high temperatures, the ceramic combines durability with the individuality of hand-applied colour, while subtle variations in tone, texture, and detail ensure that each vase is unique.
Whether standing with flowers, branches, or greenery, or existing in sculptural silence, the Sunao Vase, Medio becomes more than an object. It is a companion to daily life, a reminder of honesty in design and in living, where simplicity allows nature to take centre stage. Its considered proportions make it a natural presence on a dining table, console, sideboard, or shelf, where the interplay of carved texture, colour, and light can be appreciated from every angle.
